Chapter 6: The Silver Hawk Strikes

Before Thomas Mitchell could process the words, the dark night sky exploded into a blinding, artificial noon.
Four massive, high-intensity searchlights mounted on the top of the rusted shipyard cranes snapped open simultaneously, pinning Thomas in a crosshair of pure, white light. The hum of twin-engine stealth helicopters filled the air as they dropped from the low rain clouds, their rotors kicking up a hurricane of muddy water and debris.
"Federal agents! Drop the weapon!" Vance’s voice boomed from a megaphone somewhere in the darkness.
Thomas panicked, raising his rifle toward Director Hale, but the old man didn't flinch. With a movement so fast it seemed impossible for a man of his age, Director Hale swung his worn wooden cane upward.
The cane wasn't just wood. The custom-engineered carbon-fiber core hidden inside snapped forward, striking the barrel of Thomas's rifle with a metallic crack that sent the weapon flying into the mud. The force of the blow echoed through the shipyard, a testament to the decades of elite combat training that a quiet diner booth could never truly erase.
Thomas fell backward into the dirt, clutching his shattered hand, his eyes wide with horror as Director Hale stood over him, the point of his cane resting directly against Thomas's throat.
"You thought I was weak because I sat alone," Director Hale said, his voice cutting through the roar of the helicopter blades like a razor. "I sat alone because I was carrying the weight of the men you murdered, Thomas. I sat alone to keep the monsters from looking for the families they left behind."
Tactical operators swarmed the area within seconds, pinning Thomas to the ground and securing the steel briefcase containing the stolen data. Vance stepped forward, carefully lifting the briefcase and checking the digital seal. "The archive is intact, Director. The names are safe."
Rex stood in the mud, watching his legendary grandfather being dragged away in heavy chains by the very men who had saluted the old man in Booth Seven. He looked up at Director Hale, his arrogance completely gone, replaced by a profound, trembling respect.

"What... what happens to me?" Rex asked, his voice shaking.
Director Hale looked at the young biker, his eyes softening just a fraction as he noticed the silver hawk patch still pinned to his leather vest. "You didn't know the truth, Rex. But you chose to carry the emblem of a better man. Vance will process you through the standard channels for the disturbance at the diner. But from this day on, you will never wear that hawk again until you earn the right to respect what it stands for."
