Chapter 5: The Unholy Alliance

The rain had turned into a violent thunderstorm by afternoon, washing over the dark streets of Manhattan. Inside a secluded, underground parking garage beneath the financial district, two luxury vehicles sat idling, their headlights cutting through the damp concrete mist.

Eleanor Sterling stepped out of her car, her expensive heels clicking sharply against the ground as she walked toward the tinted windows of the adjacent black SUV. The window rolled down halfway, revealing the sharp, calculated profile of Julian Vance.

"She refused the DNA test, Julian," Eleanor said, her voice tight with suppressed panic. "Victoria is protecting the child. If she manages to keep that girl hidden until the fifth anniversary on Tuesday, the voting blocks will shift, and we will lose our window to absorb the Hale Group’s logistics sector."

"Victoria is acting on emotion for the first time in her life," Julian said, his voice flat, his fingers tapping rhythmically against his steering wheel. "That makes her predictable. And dangerous."

"We need that child gone, Julian," Eleanor hissed, leaning closer to the window. "Not permanently—just removed from the state jurisdiction until the legal deadline passes. If the child cannot be produced to verify the inheritance claim by Tuesday at 5:00 PM, the secret clause expires, and Victoria’s sole signature becomes permanent. We can then execute our pre-arranged buyout structure."

Julian turned his eyes toward her, a cold, unyielding gaze that made Eleanor step back slightly. "I told you from the beginning, Eleanor: I do not deal in the harming of children. My fight is with Victoria and the legacy of her corrupt father."

"Nobody is talking about harm!" Eleanor countered quickly, her eyes darting around the empty garage. "We just need her placed in a private care facility upstate. A quiet, secure location where Victoria’s legal teams can't find her for the next four days. Once the contracts are signed, the child can have her inheritance, and Victoria can be left with the ruins of her reputation."

Julian remained silent for a long moment, the steady hum of his vehicle’s engine filling the void between them. "I will handle the logistics of the transport. But if one single scratch appears on that girl, Eleanor, I will personally hand the forensic records of your family’s offshore shell companies to the federal prosecutors."

"Deal," Eleanor smiled, a dark, victorious glint in her eyes as she turned back to her car. "The transport will be ready by midnight. Victoria’s private estate in Long Island is heavily guarded, but I have an inside source who will open the service gate."

As Eleanor’s car sped away into the stormy night, Julian pulled out his phone, his eyes reflecting the cold blue light of the screen as he dialed a secure, encrypted line. "It’s me. The trap is set. Tell the director that the wolves are moving exactly where we wanted them to."
